Should McGee get the Deputy Director position in NCIS season 22?

Throughout his career, Tim McGee has worked hard to build an impressive reputation within NCIS, climbing the ranks with both determination and skill to become a Senior Field Agent. Despite his contributions and loyalty to the agency, however, he recently faced a disappointing setback in season 22: McGee was passed over for the role of Deputy Director. The position instead went to LaRoche, a character who, as hinted in recent episodes, may actually be working against NCIS as an agency mole. This revelation not only casts doubt on LaRoche’s intentions but also raises the question of whether McGee’s qualifications should be revisited, especially as the season progresses toward its conclusion.

Adding to this scenario is the arrival of Curtis Hubley, a new addition to the Major Case Response Team (MCRT). Hubley’s presence provides an ideal opportunity for McGee to step into the Deputy Director role without leaving a significant gap in the field. Hubley, a skilled and capable agent, could easily shoulder more of the fieldwork, making it feasible for McGee to transition into a leadership position that would allow him to utilize his experience in a broader capacity. While taking on the Deputy Director role would mean McGee would see less action in the field—a part of the job he clearly enjoys—this opportunity would allow him to guide and shape NCIS’s strategic direction, something he has demonstrated he’s more than capable of handling.

In many ways, McGee has earned this promotion. He has consistently shown dedication, resourcefulness, and a deep sense of duty to his team and the agency as a whole. His calm demeanor, analytical mind, and years of experience make him an ideal candidate for a leadership role. At this stage in his career, he deserves the chance to take his place at the top, proving that his hard work and commitment to NCIS haven’t gone unnoticed. The team—and the agency—would undoubtedly benefit from having McGee’s integrity and expertise at the helm, and as the season moves forward, it seems like the perfect time to reconsider his candidacy for Deputy Director.
