### NCIS Reveals Heartfelt Details for Upcoming Tribute Episode to David McCallum
NCIS has unveiled plot details for its tribute episode dedicated to David McCallum, who played Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard for 20 seasons and passed away in September last year.
Titled “The Stories We Leave Behind,” the episode will honor both McCallum and his character. The official synopsis reads: “As NCIS mourns the loss of Ducky, the agents find comfort in working on one of his unfinished cases involving a woman whose father was dishonorably discharged from the Marines.”
Airing on February 19, shortly after the start of season 21, the episode will be co-written by Brian Dietzen, who plays Dr. Jimmy Palmer, Ducky’s protégé and friend.
Co-showrunners and executive producers Steven D. Binder and David North shared: “Everyone at NCIS felt it was important to do an episode that honors such a legendary actor, not to mention a dear friend. The team will learn of Ducky’s passing and reflect on their memories of him as they grieve. True to Ducky’s meticulous and compassionate nature, even after he’s gone, he still manages to solve one last crime with the team.”
They also hinted at “a very touching and special moment you won’t want to miss,” suggesting possible special guest appearances.
In September, the NCIS franchise paid tribute to McCallum, stating: “David was a gifted actor and author, beloved by many around the world. He led an incredible life, and his legacy will forever live on through his family and the countless hours on film and television that will never go away.”
NCIS returns for season 21 on February 12 on CBS. Seasons 1-20 are available for streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
