Sasha Alexander reveals why she chose to leave NCIS after two seasons as Caitlin Todd. While Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ team had already been introduced in JAG, the police procedural truly began with the introduction of Kate. Initially working for the Secret Service, Kate was dismissed after admitting to an affair with a co-worker. This storyline was revisited in NCIS’s 1000th episode. Despite this setback, she joined the Major Case Response Team (MCRT), where she served for a brief period.
Alexander’s departure was unexpected, particularly as Kate was brutally killed in the NCIS season 2 finale. The actress discussed her decision to leave the show in a recent episode of the Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch podcast, hosted by Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo.
“Yeah, it did [lack work/life balance]. I mean, I think before NCIS, the shows I did had more of a balance like they were true ensembles. But in this case, normally, if you’re one or two, like in Rizzoli & Isles, I worked all the time, but there were moments where we could throw the ball back and forth. In NCIS, Mark, Michael, and I, and you later, were in every single scene.”
