Paramount’s upcoming series “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” will explore themes of trust and relationships between the titular characters, played by Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, who are reprising their roles from the original “NCIS” series. The show follows Tony and Ziva as they navigate their complicated past and raise their daughter, Tali, in Paris. When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe to uncover the truth behind the attack and learn to trust each other again.
The show’s core focus on trust is a result of the complex history between Tony and Ziva, whose relationship has been marked by lies and secrets. According to De Pablo, the title of the show could be “NCIS: Trust No One.” Weatherly added that Tali’s perspective on her mother’s return will be a significant challenge for her, saying “Trust doesn’t mean truth, doesn’t mean honesty. Just because I’m telling you the truth doesn’t mean you can trust me.”
As executive producers, De Pablo and Weatherly will work together to bring the show to life, with a 10-episode order and international locations including Budapest and other European cities. The show’s global setting was a priority for the pair, who wanted to differentiate it from other “NCIS” spin-offs.
De Pablo praised Weatherly as a collaborative partner, saying that their working relationship is “refreshingly unpredictable” and that they both share a love of playing and improvisation. Weatherly added that he was initially hesitant about shooting outside of the US, but eventually convinced the studio to come around to the idea.
The show is set to premiere on Paramount+, with John McNamara serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside Laurie Lieser, Christina Strain, and Shelley Meals.
