A teaser has been released for the upcoming NCIS spin-off, NCIS: Origins, which takes a look back at the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon. The short clip hints at Gibbs’ backstory, with a voiceover saying “We know how his story ended. Now see how it all began.”
The series is set during Gibbs’ time at Camp Pendleton, with younger versions of familiar NCIS characters set to appear. Austin Stowell will play a younger Gibbs, alongside Mariel Molino and Kyle Schmid as Lala Dominguez and Mike Franks, respectively. Diany Rodriguez will portray young Vera Strickland, while Tyla Abercrumbie will star as Mary Jo, a Field Operation Support Officer.
Additionally, Robert Taylor has joined the cast as Jackson Gibbs, the father of future NCIS team leader Jethro. Mark Harmon will also return to the show as narrator.
Meanwhile, another NCIS series has been cancelled. CBS announced last week that it is ending NCIS: Hawai’i after three seasons. The show, led by Vanessa Lachey as Special Agent-in-Charge Jane Tennant, will not return for a fourth season. Cast members have expressed their disappointment at the cancellation, with lead actress Vanessa Lachey stating she felt “blindsided” by the decision.
NCIS: Origins is set to premiere this autumn. The original NCIS series airs on CBS in the US, while seasons 1-20 are available to stream on Disney+ in the UK.
