NCIS star Sean Murray has addressed his future on the show, acknowledging that no character is guaranteed safety in the long-running procedural.
Murray, who has played Special Agent Timothy McGee on CBS’s military police drama since 2003, shared his thoughts on his lengthy tenure. Speaking to People, the Hocus Pocus actor said, “I think we learned this with things that have happened on the show over the years… No-one is quite safe.” He added, “Obviously, being here 21 years, [I] have enjoyed, immensely, being a part of this show and continue to be incredibly grateful to be a part of this show, but you never know what’s going to happen.”
Despite the uncertainty, Murray noted that the cast is having a “good time” on set and no one “is itching to go elsewhere at the moment.”
“A really strong ship was built very early on, and the show developed and founded strengths in a different kind of way than most procedurals,” he said, discussing the show’s formula and adding that fans connected with NCIS and its characters “early on.”
Meanwhile, the prolific franchise is set to debut its newest series, NCIS: Origins, which looks back to the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, originally played by Mark Harmon. Harmon will return as a narrator, with Austin Stowell, Mariel Molino, and Kyle Schmid cast as young Gibbs, Lala Dominguez, and a younger Mike Franks, respectively.
NCIS airs on CBS in the US, with Seasons 1-20 streaming on Disney+ in the UK. NCIS: Origins is currently in production.
