In February, NCIS actors Michael Weatherly and Sean Murray reunited briefly for a special episode honoring the late David McCallum on the 2024 TV schedule. This marked their first on-screen appearance together since Weatherly exited the series in 2016. As former NCIS regulars, known for their camaraderie both on and off camera, Weatherly revealed some of their behind-the-scenes antics, including elaborate food pranks.
During a recent episode of Off Duty: AN NCIS Rewatch, hosted by Weatherly alongside Cote de Pablo, guest Brian Dietzen (Dr. Jimmy Palmer) joined in as they reminisced. Weatherly recounted how he used Clif Bars to prank Murray by shaping them into faux feces and placing them in Murray’s trailer toilet. The prankster would then wait for Murray’s reaction, which often included audible surprise.
In retaliation, Murray upped the ante with his own prank involving a mixture of food items, creating a foul-smelling mess in Weatherly’s trailer that left him bewildered and grossed out. The ongoing prank war showcased their playful relationship offset.
While Murray continues his role on NCIS alongside the cast, including new additions like Gary Cole and Katrina Law, Weatherly is gearing up for the spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva, set to debut exclusively on Paramount+. This new series will follow Tony and Ziva navigating challenges in Europe with their daughter Tali playing a pivotal role.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva is slated to begin production later this summer, with a release expected in 2025. Meanwhile, NCIS Season 22 and NCIS: Origins, the Leroy Jethro Gibbs prequel, are set to premiere on CBS this fall.
