NCIS on Netflix: What’s the Latest Update?
Netflix has had a tumultuous few months with NCIS, rotating new seasons in while older ones were removed. Will new seasons be coming soon? Here’s what we know.
For over a decade, Netflix has been the home of NCIS, receiving new seasons annually after their CBS airing. This stopped in 2018 after season 15, with no explanation. In 2022, it was announced that NCIS would leave Netflix in June 2024.
However, in May 2024, it was revealed that NCIS would not be removed but shuffled. Seasons 1-11 were taken off Netflix, replaced by seasons 16 and 17. This change applies to Netflix US. Meanwhile, in early 2024, international Netflix regions received NCIS for the first time, adding seasons 10-14.
No dates have been announced for seasons 18, 19, 20, or the recent 21, but it’s expected that Netflix will add more episodes. NCIS is currently listed in Netflix’s “Worth the Wait” section.
NCIS was renewed for a single-year license on June 30, 2024, meaning the next shuffle could happen by June 30, 2025, with all seasons at risk of removal. Hopefully, new seasons will arrive sooner. The selective licensing of seasons seems designed to drive subscriptions to Paramount+.
While it’s frustrating that early seasons are missing, Netflix appears unconcerned about not hosting every season of procedural shows. For example, when Netflix added Law & Order internationally, it included only a few seasons. Procedurals like NCIS allow viewers to jump in at any season without much confusion.
For those missing the early seasons, Paramount+ offers every episode of NCIS, including weekly drops of new seasons airing on CBS. Are you disappointed that Netflix doesn’t have the early seasons of NCIS? Are you hopeful that seasons 18-21 will arrive soon? Let us know!
