There is exciting news for fans of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and the upcoming prequel series NCIS: Origins. While the release date was previously announced as part of CBS’s fall schedule, new details have made the anticipation even greater.
NCIS: Origins Release Date and Supersized Episode
The premiere of NCIS: Origins is set for Monday, October 14, immediately following the NCIS Season 22 premiere. The new series will debut at 9/8c, while NCIS will air at 8/7c.
The premiere of NCIS: Origins will be a two-hour special, giving fans an extensive introduction to the new actors portraying Gibbs and his allies, both familiar and new characters. Following this supersized premiere, the show will move to its regular timeslot at 10/9c. The regular NCIS series will then shift to 9/8c. At 8/7c, CBS will air The Neighborhood Season 7 and the series premiere of Poppa’s House, starring Damon Wayans.
This timeslot change won’t be significant for fans, as NCIS: Origins will occupy the slot formerly held by the now-canceled NCIS: Hawai’i. Additionally, episodes will be available on Paramount+ the day after airing for streaming viewers.
What To Expect From NCIS: Origins
NCIS: Origins will explore the beginnings of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’s career in 1991 as a new agent at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office in California. He will be part of a team led by Mike Franks, another significant character from the original NCIS series.
The storyline begins shortly after the tragic deaths of Gibbs’s first wife, Shannon, and daughter, Kelly, who were killed in a car crash caused by drug dealer Pedro Hernandez. This event profoundly impacted Gibbs’s career and personal life.
Set in 1991, the series will reflect the period’s technological limitations, with investigations conducted differently than in the main show. Forensic science and investigative techniques will be portrayed as they were at the time.
Austin Stowell (Catch-22) will star as the young Gibbs, with Mark Harmon returning to provide voice-over narration, similar to Jim Parsons’s role in Young Sheldon.
