Fans of CBS’ popular NCIS franchise can rejoice, as the flagship series has officially been renewed for Season 22 for the 2024-25 TV season. This renewal comes just three weeks after NCIS: Sydney, the franchise’s first international spinoff, was greenlit for a second season. However, the fate of NCIS: Hawai’i, currently midway through its third season, remains undecided.

The NCIS renewal was announced ahead of a major milestone: the franchise’s 1,000th episode, set to air on Monday, April 15 at 9/8c. This news also follows CBS’ renewal of all three FBI series.

Season-to-date, NCIS has maintained an impressive average of 9.71 million viewers (with Live+7 playback), closely matching its Season 19 numbers. It ranks as TV’s second-most-watched entertainment program, just behind CBS’ Tracker. CBS Entertainment chief Amy Reisenbach praised NCIS and The Neighborhood, which was also renewed, as the epitome of CBS storytelling, highlighting their “heart, humor, and family dynamics.”

NCIS has been a Top 20 series for 18 of its 20 seasons and has held the title of television’s most-watched broadcast drama for the past five full seasons (and 13 of the last 14).

As for the future, the NCIS franchise is set to expand with two new spinoffs: NCIS: Origins, a prequel focusing on a young Gibbs, and an untitled series following fan favorites Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David (Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo) on the run in Europe.
