The first batch of episodes from NCIS: Sydney has set high expectations for the show’s second season. As the first spinoff in the NCIS franchise set outside the United States, the new location offers fresh and unique storylines that wouldn’t be possible in a domestic series.
This series is a thrilling addition to the NCIS universe, featuring a team of well-developed characters. Season 1 delivers the dramatic plot twists and intense storylines the franchise is known for. With only eight episodes, the first season has already opened up multiple intriguing story arcs, making me eager for season 2. While the possibilities are endless, there are a few specific directions I hope the show will take.
In the season finale, we learned that JD’s son was kidnapped by a wanted criminal in exchange for the season’s villain, Ana Niemus. Earlier episodes had revealed JD’s complicated family life, including a divorce and his son, Jack, though details were scarce. While NCIS series typically focus more on cases than personal lives, the integration of JD’s son into the plot raised the stakes for the entire team.
In season 2, I would love to see JD’s family life explored further. NCIS agents often struggle to balance work and personal life, but after the scare involving Jack’s kidnapping, I hope JD makes a stronger effort to be present in his son’s life. His deep care for Jack was evident, and the guilt of not being able to prevent the kidnapping weighed heavily on him in the finale. It would be interesting to see JD navigate his responsibilities as both a father and a special agent in the upcoming season.
