NCIS Spoilers and Updates: Mixed Reactions to Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David Spinoff

Anticipation is building for the upcoming NCIS spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which will bring back fan favorites Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo as Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David. Filming for the new series started in Budapest earlier this summer, and while many are excited, not everyone shares the enthusiasm.

According to insiders, some of the current NCIS cast members are expressing concerns about the spinoff. The main show’s ratings have seen a decline, and there’s apprehension that the new series could overshadow the flagship show on CBS. The spinoff will be exclusive to Paramount+, adding to the uncertainty as it ventures into the streaming world, leaving the network show in a more precarious position.

Tony and Ziva are no strangers to the NCIS universe. Both characters played significant roles in the original series, with Tony making a recent return for a special tribute episode dedicated to Donald “Ducky” Mallard, delighting fans. Soon after, the announcement of the Tiva spinoff followed, with Cote de Pablo reprising her role as Ziva, having previously appeared in Seasons 16 and 17 after her original departure.

The spinoff will also introduce a new character, Tony and Ziva’s daughter, Tali, portrayed by Isla Gie. Described as clever and intuitive, Tali will be central to the plot as the family goes on the run across Europe after an attack on Tony’s security firm.

Despite the excitement around the spinoff, concerns persist, particularly regarding the performance of the main NCIS show. NCIS: Tony & Ziva will be the franchise’s second international spinoff, following NCIS: Sydney. Producers hope that placing Tony and Ziva in a new, exotic setting will inject fresh energy into the franchise. However, this has left some former cast members anxious about the impact on their own job security.

While the flagship show and the spinoff will air on different platforms, the tension between the two projects is palpable. However, many are optimistic that Tony & Ziva could give the franchise the boost it needs after over two decades on air.

On a positive note, Michael Weatherly is reportedly excited about this new chapter and focused on ensuring success, both for the spinoff and for others involved in the NCIS universe. Despite past rumors of tension between Weatherly and Mark Harmon, Weatherly is eager to prove himself with this new venture.
