Mark Harmon Returns to NCIS in a New Way: Meet the Young Gibbs in ‘NCIS: ORIGINS’
NCIS legend Mark Harmon may have left the show in 2021, but he’s back—this time as the narrator for the new prequel series NCIS: ORIGINS. The series dives into the early career of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Austin Stowell, as he starts his journey with a fresh team of agents.
Harmon offered Stowell some sage advice for stepping into the iconic role: “Trust yourself,” while acknowledging the unique challenge of portraying a character whose future is already well-known to fans.
NCIS: ORIGINS is set in the ’90s, showcasing a pre-NCIS Gibbs still grappling with the loss of his family. Alongside him is a young Mike Franks, played by Kyle Schmid, who helps guide Gibbs into the world of naval investigations.
The series promises to reveal untold stories about Gibbs’ transformation into the stoic leader fans know today, with new characters and old-school ’90s vibes adding a fresh twist to the franchise. Catch the premiere on CBS, Monday, Oct. 14, at 9 p.m. ET.
