NCIS star Sean Murray has opened up about his future on the show, suggesting that no character is ever truly safe in the long-running procedural.

Murray, who has portrayed Special Agent Timothy McGee since 2003, told People that despite his 21 years on NCIS, anything can happen. “We’ve seen over the years that no one is really safe,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed being part of this show immensely and am grateful to be here, but you never know what the future holds.”

Despite this uncertainty, Murray noted that the cast is currently having a “good time” on set, with no one eager to leave. He praised the show’s early foundation, which he believes set it apart from other procedurals and helped it build a strong connection with fans.

Meanwhile, the NCIS franchise is expanding with the upcoming series NCIS: Origins, which explores the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Mark Harmon will return as a narrator, and Austin Stowell, Mariel Molino, and Kyle Schmid will portray younger versions of Gibbs, Lala Dominguez, and Mike Franks, respectively.

NCIS airs on CBS in the US, with Seasons 1-20 streaming on Disney+ in the UK. NCIS: Origins is currently in production.
