NCIS executive producer Steven D. Binder has unveiled intriguing details about Season 22, particularly regarding the fallout between Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) and Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen). As Season 21 ended, Knight’s new role as Chief REACT Training Officer at Camp Pendleton pulled her away from the NCIS team and strained her relationship with Palmer, leading to their breakup.
In an interview with TV Insider, Binder revealed that Knight and Palmer’s story will continue in Season 22 with two key conversations. The first will occur in the season premiere, while the second will take place in Episode 4, during a high-stakes mission. Binder also hinted that Palmer is now dating, which will come into play at an inopportune moment.
Binder explained:
“It’s been months since the breakup. Knight is now on the West Coast, settling into her new role, and Palmer is dating again. In the premiere, Knight faces a severe hostage negotiation crisis, which will lead to the continuation of their unresolved conversation from the finale. Episode 4 will bring Part 3 of their discussion amidst a high-stakes situation that could escalate quickly. While it won’t end the world, the stakes are enormous for both Knight and Palmer.”
The upcoming season will see the NCIS team managing a critical situation, with an almost real-time episode adding to the tension. Fans can look forward to intense drama and complex character developments when NCIS Season 22 premieres on October 14, 2024.
