NCIS Fans Slam “Inauthentic” Characters, Shift Focus to Spinoff Show
After over two decades on air, NCIS is facing backlash from fans unhappy with recent changes, particularly the introduction of new characters some deem “inauthentic.” Longtime viewers have bid farewell to beloved figures like Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum) and adjusted to fresh additions, including Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover). While some fans embrace the evolution, others are vocal in their criticism, with many turning to the spinoff NCIS: Origins.
One disgruntled fan took to Reddit, writing:
“I just started watching NCIS again after a few years away… How the hell did it get so stupid? Stupid conversations, costumes, etc. I only started because ORIGINS started. Origins = good. Original = stupid.”
Others expressed similar frustrations. One viewer declared, “I HATE Parker; he’ll always be fake Gibbs to me. They should have made McGee team lead.”
Not everyone agrees, however. Some defended the changes, with one fan responding: “Why bother watching it if you don’t like Casey?”
The shift in audience focus comes as NCIS: Origins secures a full-season order on CBS, alongside other shows like Poppa’s House. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach shared with Variety:
“These shows fit seamlessly into our Monday night lineup while resonating with viewers on CBS and Paramount+.”
As the original series faces growing scrutiny, NCIS: Origins appears to be the franchise’s rising star.
