Warning: Spoilers ahead for NCIS Season 22, Episode 5, “In From the Cold.”
In NCIS Season 22, the team faces some major challenges, including a tense hostage situation that turns deadly in Episode 5. But the real twist comes when the case uncovers a dangerous rogue CIA agent, sparking memories of one of the agency’s biggest mistakes from the past.
The episode follows the team as they investigate a hospital hostage situation that escalates into a murder. The numbers recited by the suspect, Thomas Butler (John Getz), lead the team to uncover a bigger plot involving espionage. When CIA Officer Conrad (Tom Achanley) arrives, claiming Butler is a Russian spy, things take a darker turn. It soon becomes clear that Conrad is actually a corrupt CIA agent, and the MCRT must stop him before he causes any more damage. In a tense face-off, NCIS narrowly avoids a disaster, drawing parallels to their past struggles with rogue CIA agents like Trent Kort (David Dayan Fisher).
Kort, who caused massive issues for NCIS from Season 4 to Season 13, had a history of interfering with the team’s investigations, even resulting in a deadly attack on Ziva David’s family home. But unlike Kort, Conrad is caught early, preventing another long-term threat to national security.
In NCIS Season 22, Episode 5, the MCRT’s quick thinking prevents another disaster, but their troubles with dangerous individuals are far from over. The episode also introduces a new power struggle with Gabriel LaRoche (Seamus Dever), the Department of Defense Inspector General. LaRoche’s rude attitude towards NCIS is only the beginning, as he positions himself as a significant threat to the team’s future.
As the season progresses, it’s clear that the team will face even more challenges as they navigate these complex cases and internal power plays.
