Perhaps Gibbs will finally make an appearance.
Fornell stands out as one of NCIS’ most notable recurring guest stars, initially starting as an FBI agent working alongside Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs and his team. Their friendship evolved through various tragedies over time. Unfortunately, Fornell couldn’t bid a proper farewell when Gibbs retired, leaving a loose end. The upcoming predicament in NCIS Season 21 involving Vance raises questions about Fornell’s role and whether it could be a catalyst for Gibbs’ return to DC, especially considering Gibbs’ absence in Ducky’s farewell episode.
Despite Fornell’s departure from the force, the connection to Vance’s case remains unclear. However, Fornell’s FBI background may prove valuable. In the absence of Gibbs, Fornell could step in to assist if Harmon’s return doesn’t materialize. Apart from the former team commander, other familiar characters might still play a part, with Michael Weatherly recently reprising his role as Tony DiNozzo. Perhaps upcoming appearances will also include Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David.
Considering that NCIS’s 1000th episode features all its popular spinoffs, it might be more appropriate to acknowledge the episode that initiated the series. In light of this, it’s fitting that the episode should prominently feature an original cast member. It’s worth noting that while Tim McGee and Jimmy Palmer appeared in the first season, they were not part of the initial cast. This leaves CBS with only Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, and Pauley Perrette (portraying Abby Sciuto) as viable options for the celebratory episode.
