An oversight in editing inadvertently transformed Sean Murray’s character, Timothy McGee, from a one-time guest appearance into one of the longest-running characters on “NCIS.” Initially intended for just a single episode, McGee’s role was extended after a minor mistake necessitated his return to collaborate with Michael Weatherly’s character, Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo.
Although originally slated as a guest, McGee’s unexpected return wasn’t evident until he officially joined the main cast at the beginning of season 2. Throughout the years, Murray has skillfully developed McGee into one of the franchise’s most significant and indispensable characters.
