NCIS fans are in for a treat as Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly return to the NCIS-verse in their highly anticipated spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva. After making special appearances in recent years—Cote in NCIS Season 16 and 17, and Michael in a tribute episode for Ducky—this new show promises to bring them back to center stage. The spinoff, currently filming overseas, is expected to debut in 2025, although the title has sparked mixed reactions since its announcement.

During a conversation on Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch, Michael Weatherly shared an encounter with a fan in Boston who was thrilled about the new series. When asked about the title, the fan explained, “It’s fantastic. It’s what it is, Tony and Ziva. If you know what Tony and Ziva is, it’s the best title ever because that’s what you want. Sometimes, you just want a pastrami sandwich and don’t need a fancy name for it.” Weatherly agreed, noting that it might be simple, but it gets straight to the point.

Initially, Weatherly suggested NCIS: Tony, Ziva, and Tali for the spinoff, emphasizing the importance of their daughter in the series. However, the fan’s perspective made him see the appeal of the straightforward title. After all, fans of Tony and Ziva already know what to expect from the show—no need for overcomplication.

In the spinoff, Tony and Ziva go on the run across Europe to uncover who’s targeting them after Tony’s security company is attacked. Unlike other NCIS series, NCIS: Tony & Ziva won’t air on CBS but will stream exclusively on Paramount+.
