CBS has finally made its decision regarding the future of “NCIS: Hawai’i” on the network, and unfortunately, it’s not good news. The series has been canceled, making it the only one of the three current NCIS shows that did not receive a renewal order. According to TVLine, “NCIS: Hawai’i” will end with its current third season, with no plans for a Season 4. Although some television shows find new life on streaming platforms, like NBC’s “Law & Order: Organized Crime” moving to Peacock, there is no indication that “NCIS: Hawai’i” will transition to Paramount+.
The news of the show’s cancellation comes ahead of its Season 3 finale on May 6, which will now likely serve as the series finale. This decision means that “NCIS: Hawai’i” will become the shortest-lived show in the NCIS franchise to date. In comparison, “NCIS: New Orleans” enjoyed a seven-season run from 2013 to 2017, and “NCIS: Los Angeles” lasted for 14 seasons between 2008 and 2023. Meanwhile, “NCIS” has been renewed for its 22nd season, and “NCIS: Sydney” has been renewed for a second season.
Despite the end of “NCIS: Hawai’i,” the NCIS franchise is far from over. Paramount+ is already developing another spinoff featuring Michael Weatherly’s Tony DiNozzo and Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David. Additionally, CBS is planning a new show for the 2024-25 season titled “NCIS: Origins.” This prequel will star Austin Stowell as a younger version of Mark Harmon’s iconic character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, with Harmon serving as executive producer and narrator.
“NCIS: Hawai’i” was created by Christopher Silber, Jan Nash, and Matt Bosack. The series followed the NCIS agents working out of the Pearl Harbor Field Office, led by Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, portrayed by Vanessa Lachey. Despite its cancellation, fans can still stream “NCIS: Hawai’i” on Paramount+.
