Mark Harmon’s Surprising Link to Jim Beaver’s Iconic Supernatural Role

Mark Harmon, best known as Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS, surprisingly played a key role in helping Jim Beaver land his iconic role as Bobby Singer on Supernatural. The connection dates back to their time working together on the short-lived procedural drama Reasonable Doubts.

In an interview with the Supernatural Wiki, Beaver explained how his role as Earl Gaddis, Harmon’s cop partner on Reasonable Doubts, led to his casting in Supernatural. The creator of Reasonable Doubts, Bob Singer, went on to become a producer for Supernatural.

“I had worked for Bob Singer a decade earlier, playing Mark Harmon’s cop partner Earl Gaddis on Bob’s show Reasonable Doubts, so he knew me,” Beaver shared.

When Beaver submitted an audition tape for the role of Bobby Singer, casting director Robert Ulrich mentioned his submission to Bob Singer. Recognizing Beaver from their previous work, Singer immediately decided to cast him.

Originally a last-minute addition, Bobby Singer became a fan-favorite character on Supernatural, and Jim Beaver credits his connection with Harmon and their shared history with Singer as pivotal in landing the role.
