The NCIS franchise, one of TV’s longest-running and most successful, shows no signs of slowing down. With over 1,000 episodes and 46 seasons across seven different series (not including JAG), it’s a behemoth in the world of television. Even as of now, NCIS is still airing, with no clear end in sight. Fans could be watching iconic characters like Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Tony DiNozzo, and Ziva David for years to come.
Though CBS has canceled NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, and NCIS: Hawai’i, four NCIS shows remain on air for the 2024-2025 TV season.
The franchise kicked off with NCIS, a spinoff from the 1990s legal drama JAG. NCIS debuted after a backdoor pilot aired during JAG’s eighth season in 2003, introducing Mark Harmon’s Gibbs and his team. Since then, the universe has expanded to include NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawai’i, NCIS: Sydney, NCIS: Origins, and the upcoming NCIS: Tony & Ziva.
