In the NCIS Season 2 finale, the shocking death of Kate Todd, played by Sasha Alexander, left a lasting impact on fans. As a key member of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ original NCIS team, Kate’s character had quickly become a standout, making her sudden and violent departure all the more surprising. Rather than having her character simply leave the Major Case Response Team (MCRT), the writers chose to have Kate murdered, creating a dramatic and unforgettable moment in the series.

Nearly two decades after her departure, Sasha Alexander joined former co-stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo on the “Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch” podcast, where they reminisced about their time on the show. During the podcast, Weatherly revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes tidbit about Kate’s assassination scene. He confessed to making a mistake while filming the intense moment.

“If you watch the scene in slow motion, this is a little Easter egg for the people at home,” Weatherly explained. “If you watch just before the dot appears that they digitally put there, there’s a blood pack on the back of your head. Larry Fuentes or whoever set it off, and blood goes all over my face. But Larry was in front of me, so I flinch right before the blood hit, right before the dot. So I’m flinching before you get killed.”

Despite Weatherly’s minor error, Kate’s assassination scene was otherwise well-executed and remains a pivotal moment in NCIS history.
