NCIS Season 22: It’s Time for Jessica Knight to Move On from Palmer
At the start of NCIS Season 22, Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) returned to D.C. and her old job, much to the delight of her ex, Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen). The pair had ended their relationship last season when Knight moved to California for a new opportunity. While her return seemed like a chance for the couple to rekindle their romance, the two have instead tiptoed around their feelings, creating a stale and repetitive storyline.
Knight and Palmer Need Real Challenges in Their Relationship
When Knight and Palmer finally addressed their relationship in the episode “Sticks and Stones,” the reasons for staying apart felt unconvincing. Palmer cited his need for stability, while Knight claimed she wanted someone who would embrace a life of adventure. Yet, with Knight back in D.C. and no signs she’s pursuing her globetrotting aspirations, these reasons lack weight. If the show intends to keep them apart, it’s time to introduce a more compelling obstacle to their relationship.
Both Palmer and Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) have explored dating apps this season. Why not let Knight join in the fun?
A New Love Interest Could Shake Things Up
In the episode “Knight and Day,” the show hinted at a potential new romance for Knight. Torres revealed that after attending her sister Robin’s graduation party, Knight had a hazy memory of taking home a jacket from a mysterious man named Kyle, who plays in a band. Though initially dismissive of the idea, Knight reconsidered, telling her teammates, “Actually… let me know if he’s cute.”
Pursuing this storyline could add much-needed tension and complexity. A new love interest could spark jealousy in Palmer, forcing him to confront his feelings and potentially reignite their chemistry. For Knight, Kyle could provide the adventurous contrast to Palmer’s cautious personality, helping her evaluate what she truly wants in a relationship.
Jessica Knight Deserves Better Character Development
Knight has proven to be a standout character this season, shining in high-stakes moments like the clever hostage scenario in the season opener. However, her personal life scenes have been repetitive, bogging her down. Even interactions with her colleagues often circle back to her unresolved dynamic with Palmer.
By introducing Kyle or another love interest, NCIS could give Knight the opportunity to explore her desires and add depth to her character. Whether it leads her back to Palmer or cements her decision to move on, a fresh perspective would break the monotony of her current storyline and breathe new life into her narrative.
It’s time to let Jessica Knight grow — and perhaps find love on her own terms.
