The NCIS legacy continues with an exciting new spin-off titled NCIS: Origins, which will explore the early days of one of its most beloved characters. This series will take viewers back to 1991, featuring a younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs, portrayed by Austin Stowell, as he embarks on his journey as a special agent.
Fans of the original series will be thrilled to learn that Mark Harmon, who famously played Gibbs for many years before departing in Season 19, will make a return in NCIS: Origins. According to Deadline, Harmon will not only lend his voice as the narrator—a common element in prequels—but will also appear on-screen during the premiere episode.
Co-showrunner David J. North confirmed that Harmon’s involvement came after discussions with him and producer Gina Monreal. Though the focus of Origins is on the 1991 version of Gibbs, North hinted that there could be potential for Harmon to appear again, stating, “We are open to anything.”
“We hope the audience will be excited to see him after so many years,” he added.
