When Mark Harmon stepped down as a series regular on NCIS, it marked the end of an era. However, he’s returning to the screen by revisiting another role from his past. Recent set photos have provided a sneak peek at Harmon’s return in the upcoming Disney sequel, Freaky Friday 2.
According to the Daily Mail, images from the Freaky Friday 2 set showcase Harmon in action. He is reprising his role from the 2003 film, which starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in the lead roles. Both Curtis and Lohan are returning, and Disney previously released an official image of the two on set. In the original film, Harmon played Curtis’ love interest, and the new set images show all three actors reunited, filming an outdoor scene. This suggests that the marriage between Curtis and Harmon’s characters is still going strong after more than two decades. It remains to be seen how much screen time Harmon will have in the sequel. The new movie also stars Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Rosalind Chao, Julia Butters, and Manny Jacinto, with Nisha Ganatra directing and Jordan Weiss writing the script.
Will Mark Harmon Return to the NCIS Franchise After His 2021 Exit?
The future of Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the NCIS universe is uncertain. Although he left as a series regular, the possibility of a special appearance is always there. In a way, Harmon will soon be reprising his role as Gibbs, but it won’t be an on-screen appearance. Instead, he’s voicing the older Gibbs and serving as the series narrator for the upcoming prequel series, NCIS: Origins. Both Harmon and his son, Sean Harmon, are executive producers on the new series. Harmon has been a part of the franchise since he first appeared as Gibbs in JAG, the parent series that led to the NCIS spinoff. Starting in 2003, he starred as Gibbs in NCIS, making the series one of television’s most popular shows. His run ended in 2021 when he left as a series regular during Season 19.
While Freaky Friday 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, Harmon’s NCIS: Origins will debut on CBS this fall.
