NCIS: Origins will see the return of Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs! This exciting prequel follows a young Gibbs, played by Austin Stowell, at the start of his career as he navigates training camp.

While it was previously announced that Harmon would lend his voice to narrate the series, co-showrunner David J. North recently confirmed that Harmon will also make a brief appearance in the pilot episode. “That was a discussion between Mark, myself, and [co-showrunner] Gina Monreal,” North shared during a recent panel discussion. “I hope the audience will be excited to see him after so many years.”

Though North didn’t reveal the specifics of Harmon’s appearance, he hinted that there’s potential for more cameos in future episodes, saying, “We are focusing on him telling the story of 1991. As far as Mark appearing again, we are open to anything.”

In addition to Stowell and Harmon, the cast of NCIS: Origins includes Caleb Foote, Diany Rodriguez, Tyla Abercrumbie, Mariel Molino, and Kyle Schmid. Interestingly, Stephen Amell recently mentioned that he felt “c**k-blocked” from landing the lead role in the series. During an appearance on the Inside of You podcast, he revealed he auditioned for NCIS: Origins around the same time he was vying for a role in a Suits spinoff. “I got great feedback,” he said, expressing frustration when the NCIS opportunity seemingly vanished.

As of now, NCIS: Origins does not have a release date. Meanwhile, NCIS continues to air on CBS in the US, with Seasons 1-20 available for streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
