Michael Weatherly Reveals Shocking Behind-the-Scenes Detail Ahead of His NCIS Return!
As Michael Weatherly gears up for his return to the NCIS universe in the upcoming Paramount+ series *NCIS: Tony and Ziva*, he’s reminiscing about a pivotal scene involving his character, Tony DiNozzo.
In the June 4 episode of his Spotify podcast *Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch*, Michael and co-host Cote de Pablo welcomed original cast member Sasha Alexander, who played Special Agent Caitlin “Kate” Todd. The trio discussed filming Kate’s shocking death in the season 2 finale and its aftermath in the season 3 premiere. Michael shared a surprising behind-the-scenes detail about the scene:
“When you got that shot to the head, I was standing behind you,” Michael told Sasha in a TikTok clip. “If you watch the scene in slow motion — this is a little Easter egg for the people at home. There’s a blood pack on the back of your head, and blood goes all over my face. So, I flinch right before the blood hits, right before the duck. So I’m flinching right before you get killed.”
Fans were stunned by this revelation and quickly expressed their shock in the comments. “I always thought it was [because] he heard the sound or like saw it coming,” one person wrote. “I’ve been saying this for YEARS! DiNozzo flinches right before the shot happens!!!” another exclaimed. “I never noticed. That episode took us all by surprise,” added a different viewer.
As fans recall, Kate’s death was at the hands of Ari Haswari (Rudolf Martin), who was targeting Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). Kate heroically stepped in front of Gibbs during a gunfight with Ari, but was ultimately killed by a sniper shot from Ari.
With this intriguing behind-the-scenes tidbit, it might be time to re-watch the episode before *NCIS: Tony and Ziva* airs on Paramount+!
