NCIS Already Has Several Ways to Bring This Gone Character Back to the Show

The show’s beloved character might be back, but not in the way you expect.

NCIS is returning to screens later this year with season 22, promising more surprises than fans might be anticipating. The last season’s finale left two major cliffhangers: what will happen to Jessica Knight after she accepts that big offer, and will Alden Parker’s vision lead the show to delve deeper into his backstory? Fans are likely counting the days until these mysteries are resolved.

In an unexpected twist, the upcoming season might also feature the return of an original character who exited too soon in season 3. There are still ways for this character to make a comeback. Starting in 2003, NCIS introduced Sasha Alexander’s Caitlin ‘Kate’ Todd as a Special Agent until she was shockingly killed off in the season 2 finale by sniper and Mossad double-agent Ari Haswari. Following her death, Ziva David took over Kate’s duties. Since then, Kate has only appeared in a few episodes of the third season as a projection, watching her colleagues cope with her tragic demise.

To the fans’ surprise and delight, Sasha Alexander recently reunited with her former co-stars, Michael Weatherly (Anthony DiNozzo) and Cote de Pablo (Ziva David), on their new podcast, Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch on Spotify. The on-screen couple invites various people who were involved with the original show to re-watch its most memorable moments. While Sasha Alexander’s appearance on an NCIS-related podcast doesn’t necessarily indicate her return as Kate Todd, there is still potential for her to return to the series in a different capacity.

Given the shock and sadness fans felt over Kate Todd’s death, NCIS might consider bringing her back as a special treat, possibly as a hallucination experienced by one of the team members. Alternatively, Sasha Alexander could return in a different role, such as directing, which she is well-equipped for, having directed episodes of shows like Rizzoli & Isles, You, and Bull.

Regardless of how the NCIS crew decides to incorporate her, fans will undoubtedly be thrilled about Sasha Alexander’s potential return to CBS’s police procedural giant, nearly twenty years after her departure.
