NCIS: Origins isn’t going anywhere—CBS has officially given the show a full season order, according to recent reports.
Set in the 1990s, NCIS: Origins takes viewers back to the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ career, with Mark Harmon narrating the series. This news has thrilled fans, especially after NCIS said goodbye to its last original cast members. Many took to social media to express their excitement, with one fan writing, “That’s great to hear,” and another commenting, “AMAZING news! Loving the strong writing, talented cast, and character-driven storytelling!”
However, not everyone is thrilled. Some fans questioned why NCIS: Hawaii was canceled while NCIS: Origins was renewed, pointing out that Origins has lower ratings than its predecessor. One frustrated viewer posted, “Seriously?! If numbers matter, why cancel Hawaii? #SaveNCISHawaii,” while another pointed out that Origins ratings continue to drop and could be affecting NCIS itself.
CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach commented on the renewal, saying that NCIS: Origins and the comedy Poppa’s House “fit seamlessly into our Monday lineup while resonating with CBS and Paramount+ viewers.”
Meanwhile, fans were also disappointed by NCIS’s decision to effectively write out Joe Spano’s character, Tobias Fornell. His replacement, FBI Deputy Director Wayne Sweeney (played by Erik Passoja), has yet to win over fans. One viewer wrote, “Is this the new Gibbs and Fornell? Doesn’t have the same vibes.” Another added, “When the FBI shows up, I miss Fornell!”
