NCIS Fans Slam “Inauthentic” Characters, Turning to NCIS: Origins Instead

Longtime NCIS fans are voicing their frustration over the show’s evolving cast and tone, with some claiming the newer characters feel “inauthentic.” After over 20 years on air, the beloved drama has bid farewell to iconic characters like Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum) and introduced newer faces like Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover). While some viewers have embraced the changes, others are less forgiving, with many flocking to the spinoff, NCIS: Origins.

A Reddit post titled “Ridiculous” sparked a heated discussion, with one fan complaining:
“I just started watching NCIS again after a few years away… How the hell did it get so stupid? Stupid conversations, costumes, etc. I only started because Origins started. Origins = good. Original = stupid.

Others chimed in, pointing out a disconnect with certain characters. One wrote, “Maybe people don’t like Kasie as much because she’s trying too hard to be like Abby. If a character doesn’t feel authentic (too forced), people don’t warm to them.” Another added, “I HATE Parker. He’ll always be fake Gibbs to me. They should’ve just made McGee team lead.”

Not everyone agreed. A defender of the show countered, “Why bother watching if you don’t like Kasie?”

Meanwhile, the buzz around NCIS: Origins continues to grow. With the prequel gaining popularity, CBS recently announced a full-season order for the spinoff alongside the comedy Poppa’s House.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, celebrated the success, stating:
“These shows fit seamlessly into our Monday night lineup while resonating with viewers on CBS and Paramount+.”

As NCIS evolves, fans remain divided over its legacy and new direction.
