NCIS: Origins has officially earned a full-season order from CBS, according to new reports, solidifying its place in the network’s lineup. Set in the nostalgic ’90s, the show offers a look into the early career of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, with narration provided by original NCIS favorite Mark Harmon. The news comes shortly after CBS made the controversial decision to write out the last original character from the main NCIS series.

The show has already garnered attention, with stars Katrina Law and Brian Dietzen sharing insights into their on-screen romance. Fans on X are excited, with many praising the show as “the best of the new season” and noting the character-driven plots and strong performances. One fan speculated, “It means NCIS: Origins will get a Season 2 next year!”

However, not everyone is thrilled with the decision. Some fans are frustrated that NCIS: Hawaii, which was canceled, is being replaced by Origins, especially since the new show’s ratings are lower. One fan expressed disbelief, saying, “Lowest ranked CBS drama… performing worse than canceled NCIS: Hawaii! If numbers mattered, why aren’t these numbers?” Another echoed the sentiment, saying the ratings for Origins have been dropping each week, which may be affecting the original NCIS series.

Despite the mixed reactions, NCIS: Origins has been granted a full season, alongside the new comedy Poppa’s House. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach praised both shows for fitting seamlessly into the Monday night lineup and resonating with viewers on CBS and Paramount+.

Meanwhile, fans were also disappointed to learn that Joe Spano’s beloved character, Tobias Fornell, has been written out, replaced by FBI Deputy Director Wayne Sweeney (played by Erik Passoja). Many mourned the loss of Fornell, with one fan commenting, “Is this the new Gibbs and Fornell? Doesn’t have the same vibes,” and another stating, “When the FBI shows up, I miss Fornell!”
