NCIS fans are still mourning the cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i, and many are voicing their disappointment over its replacement with NCIS: Origins. The new show, which airs after the flagship NCIS on Mondays, has not won over all viewers, particularly those upset by the loss of the diverse cast and woman-led focus of NCIS: Hawai’i.
One fan expressed their frustration on X, stating, “I will never watch NCIS: Origins because they canceled the popular and amazing NCIS: Hawai’i, which had a woman lead and diverse characters like Black, Asian, LGBTQ, and Samoan.” This sentiment is shared by many others who are boycotting the new series, citing the lack of representation.
NCIS: Hawai’i was canceled in April 2024 after three seasons, with its final episode airing in May. The series made history with Vanessa Lachey as Jane Tennant, the first woman and woman of color to lead an NCIS spinoff. It also featured a diverse cast, including Alex Tarrant, Noah Mills, and Yasmine Al-Bustami.
In contrast, NCIS: Origins, which debuted this October, serves as a prequel to the original NCIS, focusing on a young Leroy Gibbs in 1991, shortly after the tragic loss of his wife and daughter.
