CBS has officially given the green light for another season of the beloved procedural drama, NCIS, confirming its renewal for Season 22. The announcement comes amid the show’s ongoing 21st season, with Variety among the sources confirming the news.
In addition to NCIS, the network also renewed the comedy series The Neighbourhood, starring Max Greenfield, for a seventh season.
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, expressed pride in both NCIS and The Neighbourhood, praising them for their authentic storytelling, humor, and portrayal of family dynamics.
Meanwhile, actor Sean Murray, known for his role as Special Agent Timothy McGee, reflected on the uncertainty of characters’ futures on NCIS. Despite his tenure of 21 years on the show, Murray acknowledged the unpredictability of the storyline, emphasizing that no character is entirely safe from the twists and turns of the plot.
The NCIS franchise continues to thrive, with spin-offs like NCIS: Sydney recently renewed for a second season. Additionally, the upcoming 1,000th episode will feature a special crossover event involving characters from NCIS Hawai’i and NCIS: Los Angeles, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans.
Co-showrunner David North teased the crossover episode, hinting at grave danger for one beloved character and promising a unique integration of different franchise elements.
NCIS airs on CBS in the US, while UK viewers can catch up on Seasons 1-20 on Disney+, with Season 21 currently available for streaming.
