Contains spoilers for the NCIS: Hawai’i series finale.

Nothing stings more for TV fans than when a beloved show ends unexpectedly. NCIS: Hawai’i took a bold step by wrapping up its season with a cliffhanger, leaving fans hanging after its sudden cancellation. Unfortunately, viewers will never know what happens next for Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and her team.

In the finale, “Divided We Conquer,” NCIS: Los Angeles alum Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) is in dire straits after being exposed to Compound Z, a lethal bioweapon. With Sam in critical condition, the team races against time to capture Dr. Analisa Cruz (Rachel Marsh), the mastermind behind the bioweapon and an anti-American radical. As half the team operates in Serbia and the other in Hawaii, it’s a coordinated effort to secure Cruz, retrieve the antidote, and save Sam’s life.

The mission is a success, and Sam recovers. As he prepares to return to Los Angeles, the team gathers for a heartfelt farewell party. But the mood shifts when Jane returns home to find Maggie Shaw (Julie White) waiting for her. “No, Janey. Julie [Jane’s daughter] isn’t here. And you’re probably going to need a drink for what’s coming next…” Maggie ominously says before the screen fades to black.

Sadly, viewers will never learn what challenge lies ahead for Jane. While there’s hope that she and her team might reappear in another NCIS spinoff, for now, fans are left to imagine what could have been. Still, they rallied to support the show’s final episode, proving their loyalty to the very end.
