Sharif Atkins, known for his role as Captain Norman ‘Boom Boom’ Gates in NCIS: Hawai’i, has secured his first role following the show’s cancellation. He will star in the new Apple TV+ series, *Me*.
*Me* is a coming-of-age drama that centers on a middle-schooler named Ben, who must navigate life in a newly blended family while discovering he has superpowers. Throughout the 10-episode season, Ben embarks on a journey of self-discovery, learning what it truly means to have superpowers. He finds support in his stepsister, Max, who helps him harness his abilities and unravel the mysteries and tragedies in their community—all while Ben comes to terms with his own identity.
Atkins will portray Darren Kennedy in the series. The cast also includes Lucian-River Chauhan as Ben, Abigail Pniowsky, Dilshad Vadsaria, Amanda Reid, Jessy Yates, and Kyle Howard. Created by Barry L. Levy of *Vantage Point*, the series is set to premiere on July 12.
NCIS: Hawai’i was cancelled earlier this year after three seasons. CBS Entertainment’s Amy Reisenbach explained the decision to Variety, saying, “I’m a big fan of TV first and I sympathize and relate to all the fans out there who are disappointed that these shows are ending. But at the end of the day, our job at CBS is to make those really tough calls. We toss and turn and have sleepless nights and have endless discussions, but we look at all the numbers. We look at what our projections are for the future, we look at where we see opportunities to potentially have even bigger success on the schedule. And we make those tough decisions.”
