NCIS: Hawai’i Cancelled: Cast and Creators Reflect on the End of an Era
NCIS: Hawai’i, the latest addition to the NCIS franchise, has been axed by CBS after three seasons, leaving cast members and creators devastated. Tori Anderson, known for her role as FBI agent Kate Whistler, expressed profound sadness on social media, stating, “Having a really hard time processing this one. Thank you to our incredible crew who made every single day feel like I was living a dream. My heart breaks for you as well.”
The show made history within the franchise by featuring the first LGBTQ agent, Lucy Tara (portrayed by Yasmine Al-Bustami), and the first female lead, Vanessa Lachey’s Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, who also shared her thoughts on the cancellation.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Anderson continued to reminisce, saying, “Goodbyes are never easy and this one definitely hurts. What a privilege to be able to work alongside the incredible cast and crew of NCIS: Hawai’i for three seasons. This show changed my life. Hawai’i changed my life.”
Noah Mills, who played Jesse Boone, echoed Anderson’s sentiments, recalling, “It was soooo much damn fun while it lasted! I will miss so many and so much about making this show.” Similarly, Jason Antoon, who portrayed cyber intelligence specialist Ernie, expressed his feelings, noting, “This business is brutal and makes no sense. But we had soooo much fun. Love you all and mahalo.”
Seana Kofoed, Antoon’s real-life wife and NCIS: Hawai’i’s resident M.E. Dr. Carla Chase, shared her gratitude to the fans, emphasizing their belief in creating meaningful entertainment.
Series co-creator Christopher Silber reflected on the journey, saying, “Four years ago, [Jan Nash], [Matt Bosack], and I started something very special… ended up creating an ohana. I’m so grateful to you all.” Co-creator Matt Bosack added, “[NCIS: Hawai’i] was a dream… proud of the stories we were able to tell.”
Despite being the last CBS scripted series awaiting renewal news, NCIS: Hawai’i faced cancellation amidst its Season 3 run, alongside CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd. Meanwhile, the NCIS franchise expands with the upcoming “Young Gibbs” prequel NCIS: Origins and a Tony/Ziva-centric offshoot on Paramount+.
With NCIS: Hawai’i’s cancellation, fans and creators alike reflect on the show’s impact and legacy, expressing gratitude and nostalgia for the journey shared.
