Co-showrunners Jan Nash and Christopher Silber revealed that they had plans for a fourth season, but the sudden cancellation meant they couldn’t tie up loose ends. They shared with TVLine that they didn’t know the series would end, explaining, “If we’d known it was coming, we probably wouldn’t have ended the series on a cliffhanger.”

The Season 3 finale ended with Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) encountering her former mentor Maggie Shaw (Julie White), hinting at future storylines involving Jane’s CIA past and her relationship with her mother. The showrunners also teased potential developments for characters Kate (Tori Anderson) and Lucy (Yasmine Al-Bustami), who had briefly discussed marriage. Additionally, LL COOL J’s guest appearance as Sam Hanna was meant to be extended, given his strong chemistry with Lachey’s character.
