NCIS: Hawai’i’s Cancellation Continued A Very Odd Franchise Trend

Spread the love

Recently, the NCIS universe has seen significant changes, notably with the cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i, continuing a pattern that has emerged in the franchise’s evolution. Originating from the 1990s legal procedural JAG, NCIS debuted in 2003, spawning its first spinoff, NCIS: Los Angeles, in 2009. Since then, the franchise has introduced several other series, with only some remaining in production.

NCIS has a history of canceling spinoffs the same year a new one premieres, exemplified by the recent cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i alongside the announcement of NCIS: Tony & Ziva and NCIS: Origins. This pattern underscores the franchise’s strategy to continually refresh its lineup with new and diverse programming, reflecting broader shifts in storytelling approaches within the industry.
