“University of Hawaiʻi Students Gain Valuable Insights from NCIS: Hawaiʻi Crew”
Students from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) recently had the opportunity to shadow crew members of the hit TV show NCIS: Hawaiʻi. Under the guidance of director Larry Teng, they delved into behind-the-scenes workshops at Diamond Head Studios, exploring camera techniques, blocking, and visual storytelling.
Senior Tony Dia found the experience invaluable, remarking, “Directing scenes under Larry Teng’s guidance and receiving feedback has truly enhanced my craft.” Similarly, Steven Loya Montoya was enthralled by Teng’s advice and witnessing the transition from set to screen.
SCA is dedicated to providing students with real-world experience in the film industry. Christine Acham, SCA chair, emphasizes the importance of such opportunities, noting, “These experiences shape students’ understanding of professional sets and their aspirations within the industry.”
In addition to the NCIS: Hawaiʻi workshops, SCA students have had the chance to shadow the crew on location at UH Mānoa. The film school actively facilitates internships, connecting students with studios like Disney, Apple +TV, Warner-Discovery, and 20th Century Fox.
