NCIS: Los Angeles star Daniela Ruah is returning to the NCIS universe, but this time as a director. After portraying Kensi Blye from 2009 to 2023, Ruah will direct an episode of the main NCIS series airing in March and an episode of NCIS: Hawai’i, set to air in April, as reported by Deadline.

Ruah expressed her excitement, saying, “Kensi was born as a character on NCIS 15 years ago, so stepping onto that set again as a director is an absolute honor. So many familiar faces and people I love have welcomed me with open arms. It’s like coming home.”

This isn’t Ruah’s first directing experience; she previously directed an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles. There’s no word yet on whether she’ll make a cameo appearance as Kensi, who was revealed to be pregnant in her final episode.

In other news, Mark Harmon, who had announced in November he wouldn’t return to the franchise, has confirmed his comeback as the narrator and producer of NCIS: Origins. The new series will explore the early life of Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

Harmon’s son, Sean, who played young Gibbs, shared, “The character of Gibbs has been an important part of my life for 20 years. I always felt there was a tale worth telling about his earlier years, so I am thrilled to be stepping into a producing role alongside Gina, David, and my dad as we reveal a new side of this beloved character.”

NCIS airs on CBS in the US, and Seasons 1-20 are streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
