Robert Taylor is set to take on the role of Jackson Gibbs, father to a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, in CBS’ upcoming NCIS: Origins prequel series, following the footsteps of the late Ralph Waite. Taylor, known for his role in Longmire, will portray the tough and uncompromising father of the future NCIS team leader, originally played by Mark Harmon.
Joining Taylor in the series is Daniel Bellomy, known for his work in Power Book II: Ghost, who will play the recurring role of Special Agent Granville “Granny” Dawson. Dawson is depicted as a rookie eager to climb the ranks within the agency, starting as an assistant to the Evidence Custodian while aspiring to become a field agent.
Caleb Martin Foote, recognized for his role in Made for Love, will also feature in the series as Special Agent Benjamin “Randy” Randolf. Randy, described as the agency’s charming “golden boy,” is tasked with mentoring the newly appointed Agent Gibbs, showcasing his patience and experience as a father of twins.
NCIS: Origins, which was greenlit in January, will be set in the early 1990s and follow a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs during his early days as an NCIS agent at the Camp Pendleton office. Kyle Schmid, known for his role in SIX, will portray NCIS legend Mike Franks, who leads the team that Gibbs joins.
In addition to Taylor and Schmid, the series regulars include Mariel Molino as Special Agent Lala Domingue, Diany Rodriguez as Special Agent Vera Strickland (originally played by Roma Maffia in NCIS Season 11), and Tyla Abercrumbie as Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Sullivan, affectionately known as “HSIC” (Head Secretary in Charge).
Although Mark Harmon will not appear in the series, he will serve as its narrator and executive producer. His son, Sean Harmon, who has previously portrayed a young Gibbs in NCIS flashbacks and conceptualized the prequel, will also serve as an executive producer alongside co-showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North.
