CBS Studios’ NCIS: Origins has secured its young Mike Franks with the casting of Kyle Schmid. He joins Austin Stowell and Mariel Molino as leads in this prequel to the beloved procedural. Executive produced and narrated by Mark Harmon, Origins delves into Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ early years, kicking off in 1991 before the events of NCIS. The series follows Gibbs (played by Stowell) as he embarks on his career as a newly appointed special agent at the fledgling NIS Camp Pendleton office, where he finds his place on a gritty team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (portrayed by Schmid). Scheduled for a straight-to-series order, it’s set to premiere in the 2024-2025 broadcast season.
In NCIS: Origins, Kyle Schmid’s Special Agent Mike Franks embodies the quintessential Texan, exuding pride with his signature cowboy boots and impeccably groomed mustache, which rivals the thickness of his resilient demeanor. As portrayed on the original series, Franks epitomizes a natural leader, guided by an unyielding moral compass, resolved to pursue justice through all obstacles.

In the mothership series, Franks, originally portrayed by Muse Watson, served as a recurring character. Despite meeting his demise in Season 8, Franks continued to appear to Gibbs, offering counsel during challenging cases, showcasing his enduring impact on the team.
Molino takes on the role of Special Agent Lala Dominguez, a fresh addition to the NCIS universe. Executive produced by Mark Harmon and his son Sean Harmon, alongside David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal who co-write the premiere episode and serve as co-showrunners.

Schmid, recognized for his work on History’s Six, BBC America’s Copper, Syfy’s Being Human, Netflix’s The I-Land, and ABC’s Big Sky, brings his talent to NCIS: Origins. He recently made a guest appearance on ABC’s The Rookie. Schmid is represented by Mainstay Entertainment.
