NCIS: Origins Star Kyle Schmid Champions Men’s Health With Powerful Movember Message

Kyle Schmid, star of CBS’s NCIS: Origins, is using his growing platform to spotlight Movember and raise awareness for men’s health issues. In the series, which has quickly captured fans’ hearts, Schmid plays Mike Franks, the wise mentor to young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, portrayed by Austin Stowell.

Known for his signature moustache, Schmid has embraced it as a symbol for the Movember movement. In an interview with Parade, he shared the deeply personal reasons behind his advocacy, focusing on mental health.

“Movember covers everything from prostate cancer to mental health, but for me, it’s about mental health,” he said, as reported by the Express. Schmid opened up about losing friends to suicide and witnessing struggles with substance abuse, stating, “Loss gives you perspective. Without pain, there is no change. With pain, there’s growth.”

Reflecting on a particularly difficult time following his mother’s passing last November, Schmid described the profound impact it had on his family and how it reshaped his priorities. “I decided I wouldn’t let an opportunity like this pass me by. I wanted to make a difference,” he shared.

The actor, who became a father earlier this year, emphasized the importance of reducing stigma around mental health for the next generation. “I hope my daughter grows up in a world where mental health isn’t a taboo topic. Life is hard for everyone. Let’s talk about it.”

Schmid’s heartfelt efforts have garnered praise online. After promoting a charitable initiative on Instagram, fans applauded his commitment. Comments ranged from “Amazing charity!” to “You’re killing it! Such a great cause.”

As Schmid continues to make waves both on and off-screen, he’s proving that his role as Mike Franks isn’t the only way he’s mentoring and inspiring others.
