Former NCIS Star Mark Harmon Pays Tribute to Late Showrunner George Schenck

Mark Harmon, who played Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS, has paid tribute to former showrunner George Schenck following his passing at age 82 on August 3. Schenck, who contributed to the first 15 seasons of the show, passed away at his home in Los Angeles, as confirmed by a CBS spokesperson.

Harmon expressed his appreciation for Schenck’s work alongside Frank Cardea, saying, “So sorry to hear the news on George. The professionalism and tenacity of George and Frank changed the face of the show. I’m so appreciative of the team and teamwork they both represented” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Schenck and Cardea’s partnership spanned over 40 years, serving as writers, executive producers, and co-showrunners until Schenck’s retirement in 2018.

NCIS is set to return in October with its 22nd season. Star Wilmer Valderrama, who plays Special Agent Nick Torres, shared updates on filming, stating, “We’re officially back on set of NCIS. Season 22 is a go. We’ve said ‘action’ already for a few days, I’m just catching you up that your boy Nick is back!”

Valderrama hinted at exciting and intense storylines, saying, “The big conversation is how can we light some shit on fire this season? It’s going to be more personal, more soul-shattering. There’ll be some tragedy, perhaps new flames, and maybe Torres might be ready for love this season.”

NCIS airs on CBS in the US, and Seasons 1-20 are streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
