NCIS star Michael Weatherly recently shared the heartbreaking news of his father’s passing. In a heartfelt post on X, Weatherly announced, “My father, Michael Manning Weatherly, passed away last Thursday, leaving behind many loved ones who will deeply miss him.”
Weatherly continued to honor his father, reflecting on their close bond in adulthood. He described his dad as “a great friend” and a man who lived a life filled with adventure and humor. Weatherly also highlighted his father’s successful career, noting that he played a key role in bringing the Swiss Army Knife to prominence during the 1970s and 1980s alongside Weatherly’s mother. “If you ever used one,” Weatherly added, “I know he’d thank you.”
In his tribute, the actor also shared details about his father’s education, military service, and his devotion as a husband and father. One of his father’s favorite places was their home in Tryall, Jamaica. Weatherly fondly recalled how his dad spent countless hours under the Sea Almond trees, cigar in hand, sharing stories with friends. When asked in recent years if there was anything left on his bucket list, his father responded with a characteristic twinkle in his eye, “I’ve done it all.” Weatherly concluded his post with a touching wish: “May he rest in peace.”
Fans quickly reached out with messages of sympathy and support. One fan wrote, “I am so very sorry for your loss, Michael. My sincere condolences to you and your family. May God grant you the peace and balm needed for your grieving heart. My prayers are with you.” Another added, “A life well-lived. God bless him, you, and your family.”
Despite the personal loss, Weatherly is also preparing for his return to the NCIS universe in the highly anticipated spin-off, NCIS: Tony & Ziva. In a recent interview with Deadline, he revealed that the new show is breaking away from the traditional procedural format, stating that they are “introducing a new voice” to the world of NCIS.
In addition to the spin-off, Weatherly and his co-star Cote de Pablo are collaborating on another exciting project: a podcast titled Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch. This podcast will revisit the original series, with Weatherly and de Pablo reminiscing about their time on NCIS and sharing behind-the-scenes stories. Each week, fans can tune in on Spotify, starting June 4, to hear from past and present cast members like Sean Murray, Sasha Alexander, Eric Christian Olsen, and Jon Cryer.
In an Instagram promo for the podcast, Weatherly introduced the project alongside de Pablo, saying, “Hi, I’m Michael Weatherly,” to which de Pablo chimed in, “And I’m Cote de Pablo.” Weatherly continued, “We played agents Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David on NCIS, one of the world’s biggest shows.” De Pablo added, “And now we’re doing a rewatch podcast.” Weatherly encouraged fans to “watch and listen every Tuesday on Spotify.”
The new spin-off and podcast are sure to be a treat for fans, offering both nostalgia and fresh content from two of the most beloved characters in the NCIS franchise.
