**NCIS Star Explains Why Gibbs Always Kept His Door Open**

Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs was known for his unique quirk of keeping his front door open on NCIS. This intriguing detail was recently explained by Harmon’s former co-star, Cote de Pablo, who played Ziva David.

De Pablo is currently co-hosting the Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch podcast with Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo). In a recent episode featuring Sean Murray, they discussed Gibbs’ open-door habit. According to de Pablo, as reported by Screen Rant, this behavior stemmed from Gibbs’ tragic loss of his family. Gibbs felt that nothing worse could happen to him, leading to his indifference about locking his door.

More of Gibbs’ story will be explored in a new NCIS series. The franchise is launching a prequel titled NCIS: Origins, set to release this fall. Austin Stowell will portray a younger Gibbs, while Mark Harmon will return as the narrator. The series will follow Gibbs as he joins the NIS Camp Pendleton office team led by Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid). Both Mark Harmon and his son, Sean Harmon, are serving as executive producers for the show.
