Sean Murray Talks About His Future on NCIS: “No Character is Safe”
Sean Murray, who has played Special Agent Timothy McGee on NCIS since 2003, recently opened up about his uncertain future on the long-running NBC military police drama. Despite his lengthy tenure, Murray believes that no character is guaranteed safety on the show.
In an interview with People, Murray reflected on his 21 years with NCIS and acknowledged the show’s unpredictability. “I think we learned this with things that have happened on the show over the years… No-one is quite safe,” he said. “Obviously, being here 21 years, [I] have enjoyed, immensely, being a part of this show and continue to be incredibly grateful to be a part of this show, but you never know what’s going to happen.”
Despite the uncertainty, Murray assured fans that the cast is enjoying their time on set and no one is looking to leave. “A really strong ship was built very early on, and the show developed and founded strengths in a different kind of way than most procedurals,” he explained, noting that fans connected with NCIS and its characters early on.
In other NCIS news, the franchise is preparing to debut its newest series, NCIS: Origins, which will explore the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, originally played by Mark Harmon. Harmon will return as a narrator, while Austin Stowell, Mariel Molino, and Kyle Schmid have been cast as young Gibbs, Lala Dominguez, and a younger version of Mike Franks, respectively.
NCIS airs on CBS in the US, and Seasons 1-20 are available for streaming on Disney+ in the UK. NCIS: Origins is currently in production.
