Leroy Jethro Gibbs may be miles away, but his influence was strongly felt in Monday night’s *NCIS* midseason premiere.

In the episode titled “Pledge of Allegiance,” McGee (Sean Murray) and Palmer (Brian Dietzen) were puzzled by a mysterious $10,000 deposited into each of their bank accounts. While Torres encouraged Palmer to share his newfound wealth by buying rounds of drinks, the plot took a surprising turn.

At the episode’s end, Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) asked McGee and Palmer to stay behind after wrapping up the Case of the Week. Both men feared they were in trouble for the unexpected funds. Instead, Vance revealed the true purpose of the deposits.

“You’re now members of the Leroy Jethro Gibbs College Scholarship Fund,” Vance announced, leaving McGee and Palmer stunned.

When they expressed concern that Gibbs’ generosity was too much and should be returned, Vance explained, “You can’t—and I should know.” He shared that he had benefited from the LJGCSF when his own children were young.

Vance detailed that Gibbs had originally set up the fund for his daughter Kelly. After her tragic death, Gibbs continued to contribute to the fund over the years. By occasionally using it to support agents’ families, “He has helped many,” Vance said.

McGee admired the gesture as a profound legacy, and Palmer expressed a desire to thank Gibbs in person. Vance responded with a hopeful smile, “Well, hopefully one day you will.”
